FFA CDE BOOT CAMP RETURNS

The IQhub is excited to announce that we will once again be hosting FFA CDE Boot Camp. Sign up for one of THIRTEEN training sessions at the IQhub’s 7th FFA CDE Boot Camp located in St Johns, Michigan! Participating students will have the opportunity to interact and learn from professionals, while preparing for their State FFA Skills Contest. Registration deadline is February 23, 2024 (to be guaranteed Boot Camp t-shirts!)

There are two ways to pay for this year’s FFA CDE Boot Camp: Check or Credit Card via Stripe.

Advisors Please Note: Each student can sign up for only ONE training session per boot camp, but adults/ chaperones can be signed up for multiple days. Late Registrations (after February 24, 2024) may not get a t-shirt.

 

TRAINING SESSION DESCRIPTIONS:

Students participating in the Agronomy Training Session will have the opportunity to learn and sharpen their skills in the area of Field Crops. Participants will practice identification of crop seeds, crop plants, weed seeds, weed plants and insects. Participants will also work on a quiz over general field crop knowledge, as well as distinguish between various crop disorders.

Students participating in the Environmental Science Training Session have the opportunity to learn and sharpen their skills in the field of Environmental Skills. Participants will practice tasks designed to test students on Soil Analysis, Water Quality/Aquatics Identification, Plant and Tree Identification, Michigan Wildlife Identification, GPS/Environmental Tools Identification and Ecosystem Analysis. (Students need to come prepared to learn outside.)

Students participating in the Floriculture Training Session have the opportunity to sharpen their skills needed in the area of floriculture. Participants will practice the main areas of the floriculture contest, where they will be evaluated on identification, general knowledge/problem solving exam and floral design practicum (copy design and corsage making). Floriculture registration is higher this year due to the amount of fresh flowers needed for the practicum.

Students participating in the Food Science Training Session will have the opportunity to learn and sharpen their skills in the area of Food Science & Technology. Participants will practice various activities related to the food industry.  Participants will also develop a good working knowledge of sound principles used in a team decision-making process.  (Please send students with their Food Science Supply Kit, if your school has one.)

Students participating in the Forestry Training Session have the opportunity to learn and sharpen their skills in the area of forestry. Participants will practice the five parts of the contest consisting of tree identification, tree measurement, equipment identification, woodland management as well as compass and pacing skills. This will help further their knowledge in managing a Michigan forest.  (Students need to come prepared to learn outside.)

Students participating in the Milk Quality and Products Training Session will have the opportunity to learn and sharpen their skills in judging dairy foods. Participants will practice judging milk based on flavor, odor and the California Mastitis Test. Participants will also work on identifying various types of cheese and milking unit defects. Milk Quality registration cost is higher due to the amount of dairy products needed for the practicum.

Students participating in the Veterinary Science Training Session will have the opportunity to learn and sharpen their skills in the wide field of veterinarian science. Participants will practice the general knowledge test as well as breed, equipment and parasite identification. Participants will also work on the practical areas of preparing a fecal float and injections. (Please send students with their Vet Science Supply Kit, if your school has one.)

ADVISOR/ ADULT/ CHAPERONE INFO:

Please sign up the advisor, adults and/ or chaperones attending.  They will also receive a t-shirt & lunch.
